People all around the world share their adventures using Mobypicture to all their social networks. From their mobile phone they easily upload photos, video and audio to their friends on networks like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, their blog and numerous other social sites and services.

Why build a layer on top of MobyPictures API
Remco: The Moby layer lets you explore the latest picture and video postings of other Moby users nearest to you. You can view the content through the mobile phones’ camera in Augmented Reality, or on a map and there is a List view. Clicking the content gives you more info (comments etc.) and options; the routing how to get to the spot where the picture was taken and a link to the content on the Mobypicture website, where the user can get more info and leave a comment themselves.

In which way is this layer an added value for the services of MobyPicture
Remco: The layer proposition is a powerful solution to engage visitors of events and exploration of brand related content, bringing realtime experiences to like minded people instantly.

Remco: Today we  launched the first brand extension of the Moby layer for Rabobank Tour de France. This branded Mobypicture layer is part of the MobyNow solution, the social media content aggregation platform Mobypicture recently launched as a managed service helping publishers and brands to regain control of the social media conversation.

The Branded RaboNow layer lets you explore the content around you in augmented reality. Showing you the latest photo and video Mobypicture postings and Twitter updates of the Rabosport Cycling teams and those of the Press and all Fans, nearest to you. The Layer shows all the location tagged content of the realtime platform Rabosport Now.

Mathys  van Abbe, founder of Mobypicture, comments: “The branded Mobypicture Layer solution enables brands to become part of user experiences in realtime. It’s contextual, value added and non intrustive.”

Layar Developers Jump Out of Plane

By Maarten Lens-FitzGerald on Wed 7 Jul 2010

Indraneel and Ronald, the first two developers at Layar thought that it was time for some fresh air last weekend. What better way then to take to the skies and then jump out of a plane with a parachute!

We have a new rule now at the office: Only one developer can do a parachute jump when the others are standing on the ground. You know, just in case..

They took some great pictures

UAR Urban Augmented Reality: experience the past, present and future

By Claire Boonstra on Wed 30 Jun 2010

The Dutch Architecture Institute (NAi) launched their Urban Augmented Reality platform called UAR (pronounced “you are”). UAR is a state of the art application of Augmented Reality - not only providing information on the buildings you’re standing in front of, but also shows you in 3D how it will be, how it was or how it could have been - if the alternative design would have been chosen. A truly immersive experience. A great example to show what AR is all about!

First in Rotterdam
Rotterdam is the first city in the world that is available in UAR. Open the UAR layer in Layar and experience what an alternative design for the Euromast would have looked like - in its real environment. Or get a sneak preview of the new Rotterdam central railway station. Rotterdam is the first city, to be followed later this year by Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. The rest of the Netherlands will follow in 2011.

More information can be found on the website of the NAi: http://www.nai.nl/uar

The New Layar Video: Discover, Play & Floaticons

By Maarten Lens-FitzGerald on Wed 30 Jun 2010

This latest video shows scenarios of how Layar is used in everyday life: to find a place to eat, to get to know the city through history, to play games and to see which bands are playing around you. This video also premiers Floaticons, the cool 3D objects which we all can use to express ourselves in this new world of Augmented Reality.

Feel free to use this video. Here is the downloadable version for offline viewing (its around 300 mb, use ‘right click’ - ‘save as …’).

Amazing Augmented Reality Art in Layar

By Maarten Lens-FitzGerald on Tue 29 Jun 2010

A project at the MediaLAB for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam resulted in some amazing art work in Augmented Reality. We said it before and we’ll say it again: you can create ANYTHING in Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality is the biggest canvas you can work with. These artists know this already.
