Leaves a lot to be desired, but great at the same time…
I don’t quite understand the database that you pull your information from, but I’m slightly confused by it…my first Augmented Reality app was “Nearest Places” by “acrossair”. It pulls from Google Maps, which is Global for the US. I played around with it just right now to compare with Layar, and noticed that it is so stupid when I click the category “Petrol Stations”. Didn’t give me any gas stations, but rather hotels. However, upon searching, it seems to pull from Google Maps to find what I’m looking for.
However, with Layar, it’s so confusing. I don’t know if I should use the pre-favorited Layar search, or use the general search in the lower right hand corner…
Anyways, when I search through the client search (instead of the favorited one), it then pops up different choices (I’m guessing that these are different search databases???) and then after I select one of these, it shows me my choices.
On a few occasions, I’ve been presented with a search database that is for Chicago (I’m in Plano, north of Dallas, TX), so obviously the Chicago database will not show anything for me.
Also, it’s a bit annoying when I’ve actually found results to see several bunched up. One of the points of AR is to be a gaudy app. Well, the way “Nearest Places” does it is to stack the results on top of each other and you drag the list down. The higher on the list, the further it is…
I understand that may be slightly difficult to do here, so do it the way “Wikitude” does…when you tap on a cluster of results, have a small drop down box pop up, and you can see all the results in the cluster, instead of having to go to the list view, and then pop back to the camera view. Believe me, those who want AR are looking for the fancy schmancy…if we wanted list views, then we’d just use Google Maps…
So in conclusion…
1) Make searching more streamlined and easier. Combine databases, or make the database search on YOUR end, not the user end. I don’t like searching for Pizza and having it then pop up which search database I want to use, and then hoping that that database has my area catalogued…
2) Make it easy to tell what results are in a cluster WITHOUT LEAVING THE CAMERA VIEW.
Otherwise, it’s a pretty slick app.

Yeah same here I can’t find it on the app store any more when i had my 3G it was on the featured list then when I got my 3G S I found a direct link then a pop up says “your request can not be completed” I even did a search WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!

That is the nature of creativity and innovation. Out of the chaos an orderly relativity glitch-free application will emerge (via much trial and error). ’tis the nature of the beast. So will be the case with Layar.
This app was one of the Applications that turned me to the iPhone. I saw it on a friends iPhone. And now it is not available. That is absolutely horrible. Will you be fixing it and putting it up again?
When will Layar become available again in the appstore? It’s one of the great apps for the iphone.
