"Unraveled" by Studio Daniel Libeskind 'Peeling Layers of Space Out of Thin Air: AR by Architects' is a group exhibition in Ghent, New York at Omi International Arts Center. Opening Date: 07/09/2011---------------------------------------------------------------"It makes visible the trace of an apparently invisible conversion: light into object, poetry into number, thought into landscape. It is an expression that the garden is only the number of our existence made audible to the soul... The shape, function, mechanism, and character of the garden seek to reveal that we are surrounded by a world full of amazing and powerful signs, the laws of which are intimated but cannot be unraveled. the meanings that reach us are those of an accidental encounter with fragments of our own awareness. The displacement between form and function opens a gap in the text, date, and atmosphere, which transforms the notion of space from that of domination to that of an uncontrollable anniversary. The garden evokes an unresolved tension that sensibility conjures in a play that has a conclusion that is unreadable yet consecrated." Studio Daniel Libeskind ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "In the recent past, many architects have dabbled in virtual reality, simulating augmented space using video projection technology and other media. Now, via developments in augmented reality, the general public can enter this virtual space and actively engage with the visions of mature experimental architects. The participants in Peeling Layers of Space Out of Thin Air were selected in response to their visionary approach towards a new architecture that has changed the built and/or academic landscape. As I expected, every contribution to this exhibition is masterful in the ways it uses augmented reality to intervene with the tranquil landscape of OMI, superimposing exciting and unpredictable visions that will make an everlasting impression on its visitors. Thanks to these interventions, OMI is now the locus of an unprecedented fourth dimension of fierce force that will continue to expand our understanding of space and time in the 21st century." ---John Cleater ---6/28/11
