“women get it”…[my gawd, we do!?];)
[i've also heard spivaks get it. + calathumpians, or so i've read (but that last 1 could just be a nasty rumor). a coupla points i'd like 2 make (my womb-dependent status permitting;))]:

    a) 1 of the variable-areas you neglected 2 mention is mechanical blood-sweat-+-tears AI scripting [writing as opposed 2 coding] [think: an Augmented Reality Dramaturgy "Service" (yes, in dev currently) composed of:

    1. the construction of functional AR "voices" (as in workable entity multilogues/actual avatar scripts)
    2. ensuring AI/toon/"chARacter" cohesion (assisted by robust/consistent UX)
    3. a gruntwork copywriting "architecture" (construction/maintenance)].

    b) synthetic environments is not a phrase exclusively vomited by the military. it’s an inflating [or dare i say emergent + thereby red-rubber-stamp the hype tripe?] label that baby-pats aspects of the “traditional” Reality-Virtuality Continuum: http://u.nu/9stp. in fact, the _Augmentology 1[L]0[L]1_ project not only blip_verts thru this synthetic environments phrase-label but shouts the following tagline: “A working manual discussing the formation and evolution of synthetic environments”.

[...] Good ideas on standards at an early stage of  a developing industry like augmented reality are like spring sunshine and April showers for new crops. No one knows what storms and pests the growing season will bring – but water and sunshine (open standards) are always a good start. And, personally, I can’t wait to see how this new industry unfolds (also see Bruce Sterling’s Layar Conference keynote : “At the Dawn of the Augmented Reality Industry.”) [...]

[...] At the Dawn of the Augmented Reality Industry Bruce Sterling’s keynote address at the Layar event held at the beginning of this week. After a short introduction in which he shares his love to AR, Sterling presents the main issues and challenges AR developers are going to face in the coming few years. Security problems, cheesiness, the AR community of Kuala Lumpur, and nazi layers – you will find it all in this thought provoking talk: [...]

From Auckland, “the 5th highest rated city for AR Google trends”.
Interesting that he didn’t mention IP/patent wars as obstacles to emerging businesses in this field (at least I didn’t notice him mentioning that).
Fantastic video. Thanks, Layar, for publishing it.

[...] The first augmented reality was spice, and that was a heavy market for the Europeans, who had a quite a lot of bland food. Augmented reality is hyped a little like that. Marketers find it tasty, and business writers like to sprinkle it onto a lot of the passages they write. It makes the tech go down faster, so to speak. For more on that, I'd watch Bruce Sterling's keynote at Layar. [...]
