Yes we are available for the Droid!

By raimo on December 4th 2009

Layar on the DroidAfter some incredible hard work from our Android Dev Ronald (@jsourcenl) and some testing, from our “Guy with a Droid” Dylan (@mykoan), we are so proud to say that we are finally available on Android Market for all Droid users.

So for the Techies: What did go wrong? Well, on the Droid we had encountered some difficulties in the OpenGL overlay over the camera image. After certain actions, the camera image would be placed on top of the AR world. We did not have this problem with the other Android handsets. That is the reallllly short version ;-)

Minor bug fix: This update also fixes an issue with the sleep/wake functionality that caused Layar to sometimes steal focus when turning on your phone. Sorry about that one..

Verizon Wireless, Motorola and Google thank you for your patience and support.

Now it is time to celebrate the weekend!

Just intalled it and it’s working great! Love the mountain top locator, very useful for down here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I think you’re still having the same problem: overlays are vanishing after some use on my Droid. Plus:

    1) No logins (like for Tweeps around) seems to get saved: I login to a layer, and then am not logged in when I redirect back to layar. Nor are my preferences for distance and so forth being saved.

    2) The application is not disabling screen timeout, which means that the screen will go dark when I’m moving around looking at things.

Thanks for working so hard on this, but I’m having issues as well. So far the camera view isn’t showing up at all. Just the white grid on a black background. The accelerometer seems to be having problems too. When I tilt the phone up and down, it shows the change in viewpoint in relation to the grid, but when I turn left and right, nothing changes.

I have 2.01 installed, could that be the difference?

  • By Bob Igo on December 14th 2009 at 5:28 pm

On my Droid, the grid overlay is intermittent as well. This bug is still present.
