Elle Magazine Adds Layar in the UK

Chris Cameron August 23, 2013

Katy Perry isn’t the only eye-catching thing in this month’s Elle UK.

Inside the popular women’s magazine, readers will find they can scan pages with the Layar App to discover bonus materials, including links and behind-the-scenes videos.

Here’s what Elle had to say about its latest issue:

“You can bring the web page (pg 40) to life so you can get to the online content direct via your phone, including our behind-the-cover Katy Perry video.

See the Chanel page with the whole world on it? You can scan the page and see every look from that show while you’re on-the-go.

And that’s not all – you could also win a beauty goody bag, worth £200. All you need to do is head to pg 314 and find the hidden beauty video using your Layar app. Tweet @ELLEUK using #ELLEsept and the name of the video for your chance to win.”

With the Layar Creator, brands can easily add digital interactivity to print in just minutes! Learn more here!

Insurance Giant Allianz Launches Custom AR App with Layar

Chris Cameron August 21, 2013

Allianz KonnectAR App

Allianz, a multinational insurance and investment services company and one of the world’s largest businesses, is using Layar to bring augmented reality (AR) and interactive print to its customers.

This summer, with the help of Layar Partner Network member TAB Worldmedia, Allianz Suisse launched a new mobile application - KonnectAR - which allows its clients to access digital content, services and information related to the company’s printed brochures and magazine advertisements. The app was built using the Layar SDK, one of our custom solutions that allows brands to embed Layar’s AR technology directly into their own apps.

When a customer scans an Allianz product brochure or an Allianz advertisement in a magazine, the KonnectAR app provides animated product information, links to relevant websites or even a button to quickly call a service employee on their phone in their preferred language!

“The possibility to connect our online content with our offline commercial instruments and engagements is of crucial importance in an ever increasing connected world,” said Patrick Eugster, Head of Corporate Development and Strategic Marketing at Allianz Suisse. “KonnectAR allows the customer an easy transfer across different media instruments and therefore improves the whole brand experience these customers face.”

New German Magazine MEET Launches with Layar

Chris Cameron June 20, 2013

A brand new magazine from Hubert Burda Media, Germany’s largest magazine publisher, has launched complete with Layar’s interactive print from the start.

The magazine – MEET – is a lifestyle publication aimed at male “foodies,” and launched with a circulation of 70,000 earlier this month. Readers can use Layar to scan the pages of the magazine – filled not only with man-centric recipies, but also manly lifestyle suggestions – to gain access to bonus digital content, including shopping lists and videos.

The inclusion of interactive print in a newly launched title from the start is a strong indicator of the growth in popularity of Layar’s technology and interactive print as a whole. We’re very excited to see continued growth into the German market, especially with a brand new title such as this.

The magazine is published by Burda Community Network, part of Hubert Burda Media which is a leading German publisher and printer. It’s a huge sign of approval for interactive print to have such a large publisher unveil an entirely new brand with Layar’s technology.

You can find MEET and Eat Like a Man on newsstands in Germany now!

Inc. Magazine Connects Print and Digital with Layar

Chris Cameron June 4, 2013

The widely read business magazine Inc., famous for its annual “Inc. 500” list of the fastest growing companies, has begun enhancing its pages with interactive print using the Layar Creator.

Inc. not only boasts a 700,000+ magazine circulation - it also has a bevy of digital content on its popular website and blogs, supplementing the material featured each month in the magazine. With the Layar Creator, Inc. is able to connect these two large markets, bringing the additional digital content to the printed page and to its massive reader audience.

“It’s all part of our effort to find new ways to tell the stories of entrepreneurs and, in ways that no one else can, to tackle the issues that matter most to them,” said Eric Schurenberg, editor-in-chief of Inc.

In the recently released June issue, readers can scan pages of the magazine to see video interviews with some of this year’s overachieving “30 Under 30” entrepreneurs, a welcome video from editor Eric Schurenberg, dynamic advertisements and more.

“Thanks to Layar, we are able to increase the engagement of our readers within editorial while taking advantage of new forms of mobile e-commerce with ads,” said John Tebeau, Publisher of Inc. “Integrating this technology into the pages of Inc. puts the magazine at the forefront of reader engagement opportunities – something that’s prized by both our readers and our marketing partners.”

The latest issue of Inc. is another fine example of how the Layar Creator is the perfect solution for bringing together the two worlds of print and digital. As the popularity of interactive print continues to grow, Inc. is helping lead the way amongst a growing list of U.S. magazines choosing Layar.

GUP Magazine Brings Art Photography to Life

Chris Cameron May 27, 2013

Since 2005, GUP Magazine – the Guide to Unique Photography – has been publishing its inspiring magazine of photography, and more specifically: art photography. In its most recent issue, which centers on photography in Los Angeles, GUP has brought its collection of astounding photography to life with interactive print.

A special motion-graphic animation on the cover (created by Marija Danilovic, see above) featuring Angelina Jolie welcomes readers to the issue. Inside, as readers flip through the various photographers’ galleries, they can scan the pages to view video documentaries, films and trailers for a behind-the-scenes look.

“We decided to add interactive elements to the magazine because it adds an extra layer to our current content,” says Peter Bas of GUP Magazine, who calls the Layar Creator “quick, cheap and easy.”

With the Layar Creator, its easy to quickly link extra digital content to print pages, increasing reader engagement and opening doors to new, digital commerce opportunities for publishers.

“Most of the featured photographers also film their projects nowadays,” adds Bas. “In a magazine it’s impossible to show this, but with Layar’s technology it is. The additional layer is a direct enrichment to the content of the magazine and to the reader experience.”
