Meet Layar’s Newest LPN Members: DPI New Media, Second|Site LLC & Motive NYC

Adriane Goetz September 23, 2011

Here at Layar, we want to see the coolest content possible on our platform, so we often help facilitate relationships between proven top-notch layer developers and the brands, publishers or other clients looking for technical help to bring their Augmented Reality concepts to life.

We created the Layar Partner Network to publicly recognize these top-notch developers, and to provide a channel for more personal communication so we can keep up with their latest Layar projects more efficiently.

What started as a short list of mostly Europe-based developers such as TAB worldmedia, Mobilistar, Muzar and HPSC, has since blossomed into a 55-member group from all across the world!

We recently added three new Partners, and we’d like to introduce them to you!

Meet Layar: Ivo van Barneveld

Chris Cameron December 21, 2010

Last week we introduced you to Klasien van de Zandschulp, one of the fresher faces at Layar who works with user research and interaction design. This week we have another recent hire to profile – Ivo van Barneveld, manager of the Layar Partner Network.

Ivo is a native to the Netherlands with over a decade of work experience in mobile technology, so here’s a bit about him and his experiences so far at Layar.

“I was born in Cadier en Keer in the southern part of the Netherlands (near Maastricht). I lived in the provence of Limburg for the first 4 years of my life and then moved to Dalfsen (near Zwolle) at the age of 5,” says Ivo.

“I have one sister who is three years younger than me and as a family we would spend many, many holidays in Sweden. I really love that country” he adds. “I lived in Dalfsen until the age of 18 when I left to attend college.”

Ivo attended the Delft University of Technology where he earned his Master’s degree in Applied Physics. Before coming to Layar, he worked as a manager at ProRail, which is responsible for the Dutch railway infrastructure.

The majority of his previous work career, however, is from his time with Nokia. Ivo worked for Nokia in several areas, including Networks Forum Nokia and Mobile Video. Now at Layar, Ivo manages the Layar Partner Network.

“As manager of the Layar Partner Network, I provide the premium tier of our developer community with tools, information and business opportunities to make them successful. I organise webinars, develop new initiatives and manage communication between developers, brands and agencies that use Layar,” he says. “The thing I like most about working at Layar is the great group of people I get to work with, and the quick decision making that a smaller company allows.”

Outside of work, for Ivo, family comes first. He is married and has three daughters, ages 3, 6 and 7. Ivo devotes most of his free time to his family, like helping manage the field hockey team two of his daughters play on. With the time left over, he enjoys running and cycling, as well as reading. A book he really recommends is Fermat’s Last Theorem by Simon Singh, even if you’re not into maths!

Introducing the Layar Partner Network

Redactie June 9, 2010

Over the past year, the Layar community has grown fast to over 3500 developers. The developers are important links in our ecosystem. To get the most out of the Layar community, we set up the ‘Layar Partner Network’ with the first draw of our most active developers, including:

The Layar Partner Network is a collaboration between developers and Layar, created to share knowledge, experiences, ideas and plans. By exchanging information and skills, we learn from each other and make the Augmented Reality opportunity grow. Through monthly webinars, the members of the Layar Partner Network keep in touch, and share the latest developments in the Layar field.

Members are admitted based on the conditions of being a developer that:

  • is committed, passionate and involved with Layar

  • has at least 1 published layer of high quality and 1 person fully dedicated to Layar development

After the first sessions with our Partner Network members, we decided to get more dedicated developers on board. The second draft includes so far:

Emmelien Kneppers, Strategy director Lost Boys Mobile: “We’re very pleased to be able to combine forces within the Layar Partner Network, because this will create new opportunities. Our work, which by definition is based on acting from strategy and user experience, is now extended with a new channel with a lot of potential for our customers- existing and new ones.”
(Lost Boys Mobile is a full service agency in Mobile, recently founded by LBi Lost Boys and Triple IT. Their official launch will be mid-June.)

If you’re a company looking for a skilled developer to create your layers, we can recommend the members of the Layar Partner Network. If you want to know more about the program or have specific questions, please contact maurice@layar.com.
